Seeing The World With MapsNothing will inspire a love of learning and adventure in the young more than a world map picture. A map of the world is really an essential gift for any youngster. I remember when I reached my fifth birthday. Instead of giving me the toy car that I wanted, my father got me a map of North America. I was amazed. I had never seen anything like it. He showed me exactly where we lived on the map. I asked him, my eyes wide with wonder, if this was the whole world. "No", he said, "just one small part of it". After that, I literally begged him for a map of the world poster. He was only too happy to oblige. World map pictures are not just good for decoration. They are also great for travel planning. This may seem odd to you. After all, there are few travelers around nowadays who use a world map picture to plan their travels. Most of us are used to doing it on the Internet. We can scroll through pages and pages of images, looking for just the right vacation destination. What use is a world map picture? It is static and hangs on the wall, after all, always the same. What I like about planning my travels on a world map picture is that it gives me a clear vision of where I have gone and where I have not. The static state of the world map picture is an advantage. Having the ability to constantly change and update information is an advantage, but it is not good for everything. I always think of my world map picture as a monument to the high points of my life. I stick little pins in the destinations that I have most enjoys traveling to. By now, there are many pins, and from several of them hang notes describing the adventures that I had there. My world map picture is almost a trophy. It shows everyone who enters my living room all the fun and excitement that I have had in my life. Truly, I have been blessed. Of course, although there is only one world, there are many world map pictures. Not every world map picture is the same, and care must be exercised in choosing the right one. I always like to see maps of the world that combine political data with some simple topographical data. To me, this gives the clearest image of the world as it is. |
